Dear Secretary-General,
We wish to address you on behalf of the Afghan people who are the subject of our deepest concern.
Starting from May 2021, a new offensive by the Taliban militias began, which in a few weeks conquered Afghanistan. The Taliban entered Kabul on August 15, 2021. President Ashraf Ghani left the country and a reborn Islamic emirate of Afghanistan was established, led by Abdul Ghani Baradar.
A new reality that destabilizes a country that has tried, over the years, to find the strength to be able to get out of war and rediscover peace, the protection of human rights, the protection of religious minorities and the protection of women. A process undermined today by the Taliban regime.
We ask for humanitarian corridors.
We ask for support for Afghan families on the run.
We ask the right of asylum for human rights activists, journalists, translators and citizens threatened by the Taliban regime.
We ask for visas for the expatriation of human rights defenders who for years have worked for the promotion of the rule of law, transparency and women's rights.
We ask that access to the territory of the European Union and the procedure for the recognition of international protection be granted.
Thank you for your attention.
