In February 2011, nine retired U.S. Air Force generals filed a complaint with Kansas state regulators to seek disbarment of 10 lawyers who are members of the Westboro Baptist “Church” based in Topeka, Kansas. In March 2011, four more Generals joined the grievance.
THIS GRIEVANCE HAS NOTHING WHATSOVER TO DO WITH THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL OR 1st AMENDMENT RIGHTS. IT SIMPLY ALLEGES THEIR CONDUCT VIOLATES THE OATH THEY TOOK TO MAINTAIN A LICENSE TO PRACTICE LAW IN KANSAS.
The objective of the complaint is to compel an inquiry into allegations lawyers tied to the church failed to maintain standards of professional conduct required to hold a law license in Kansas under Kansas State Law.
The preferred outcome is disbarment of each individual lawyer who is also a member of the Westboro Baptist “Church”. For more information, click this link: http://cjonline.com/news/2011-02-28/generals-complaint-targets-phelps-lawyers
We, the undersigned, fully support the grievance sent to the Kansas Board for Discipline of Attorneys by Maj. Gen. Larry Twitchell and his 12 colleagues.
Because of the decades long pattern of uncivil and unprofessional conduct engaged in by the lawyer members of the Westboro Baptist “Church”, we think their licenses to practice law should be permanently revoked.
