Tennessee currently has no official antediluvian animal despite the fact that a fossil of a bull-raccoon (Taurus crockettensis) was discovered several years ago, and is currently in the collection of the Hokes Archives at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. This petition seeks to have citizens of Tennessee request that the governor designate the bull-raccoon as the official antediluvian animal of the state.
WHEREAS, the Raccoon (Procyon lotor) is currently the official animal of the State of Tennessee, and
WHEREAS, the Bull-Raccoon (Taurus crockettensis), an antediluvian creature that combines the features of a bull and a raccoon was native to Tennessee before the Great Global Flood described in the Holy Bible, and
WHEREAS, the official scientific name of the Bull-Raccoon is the Taurus crockettensis in honor of the celebrated folk hero, frontiersman, soldier and Tennessee native David Stern Crockett (August 17, 1786 – March 6, 1836), and
WHEREAS, the Bull-Raccoon offers evidence that God, the supreme creator uses collage techniques to create new animal species,
THEREFORE, WE THE UNDERSIGNED CITIZENS OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE petition the Governor of Tennessee to designate the Bull-Raccoon as the official antediluvian animal of Tennessee.
