HB 2741 is NOT in the best interest of the Respiratory Care profession or health care in Arizona. This bill proposes elimination of the Board of Respiratory Care Examiners, our licensure board, under the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
Respiratory Care and Nursing are vastly different. RTs will be underrepresented on the nursing board (3 representatives out of 13 board seats), thus any interpretation or ruling on the profession will be in the hands of nurses and not RTs.
The provision of HB 2741 to delete section D9 a-i, leaves our scope of practice vague, loosely defined, and vulnerable to interpretation by non-RT's.
We are in opposition of HB 2741 for the reasons outlined above.
