Currently the Australia Government only covers 10% to 80% of the cost of an Insulin Pump, through a scheme depending on the family income. Most families can not afford the gap amount even after this funding help.
Countries like the United Kingdom provide Insulin Pumps free of charge to patients under the NHS. The Australian Government currently does not fund Continuous Glucose Monitoring sensors under the National Diabetes Services Scheme nor does private health insurance companies as they see these as a "luxury".
We the undersigned, call on the Australia Government to fund 100% of the cost of an Insulin pump and for Continuous Glucose Monitoring sensors to be placed on the National Diabetes Services Scheme to make it more affordable for every Australian to have the best possible care or at the very least, push for private health insurers to fund 100% of the cost of Continuous Glucose Monitoring sensors.
