In recent years, the Walt Disney company has lost some of its confidence in hand drawn animation.
Longtime fans of Disney have grown frustrated with the company's commitment to CGI films just to compete with Pixar and Dreamworks.
Disney's energy in the last decade has been spent acquiring Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm, without any thought to revitalize the Disney feature animation studio for future generations of artists willing to break out the old pencil and paper to make movies.
We the undersigned feel that the dissolution of hand drawn animation is an insult to the not only the history of the Walt Disney company, but an insult to the legacy and the memory of Walt Disney himself.
Although The Princess and the Frog and Winnie the Pooh were not as successful as you might've hoped, it could've been just the beginning of another Renaissance, but instead, you raised the white flag.
There are plenty of new technologies around the world that could bring hand drawn animation to the digital age, such as advances in digital ink and paint, and we the undersigned express the wish that your company take advantage of these new technologies.
We the undersigned understand the expenses of a hand drawn film, but we feel that the magic of those hand drawn features will always be worth every penny.
