Gary K. McClendon was a dedicated summer league softball coach that left a mark on many young girls, umpires, parents and many others that came in contact with him. He spent Sunday afternoons with his family on the field picking up trash, spraying around the fences with round-up and just general clean-up.

On Tuesdays he would mow and trim the grass. He loved softball and wanted the girls to have a nice complex to play ball.

On December 5, 1988, Gary was injured on his job and died. The community was devasted at the loss of this quiet dedicated husband, father, coach, co-worker and friend. To honor his love for softball, dedicated work ethic in maintaing the field, endless hours of practice and the many wins and losses his fellow coaches, parents and the community took the appropriate steps to name the softball field the "Gary K. McClendon Softball Field". To honor Gary in that manner was recognition of his work with softball and the love of the girls, his community and what he believed in. The sign denoting that field has served as his legacy for the past seventeen years.

During the construction of the new baseball complex the sign was taken down and remains down.

The sign was taken down during the construction of the new complexed and has not been replaced.

We, the undersigned, call on the Central Independent School Board to honor the naming of the Gary K. McClendon Softball Field by placing the sign on the appropriate field as named 17 years ago.
