Leading Swedish newspapers namely The Dagens Nyheter newspaper and Expressen tabloid on Wednesday March 10, 2010 published a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) with the body of a dog by a caricaturist who was the target of an assassination plot by Muslims arrested in Ireland. They defended the fact that it's freedom of expression.
It is also purposed that amendment in the constitution of Swedish Government is also going to take effect from 1st Jan. 2011 clearly stating in the Freedom of the Press Act and the Fundamental Law on Freedom of Expression that agencies and other public bodies are prohibited to take action against anyone exercising their freedom of the press or freedom of expression. It is also proposed that there be a penal provision for more serious violations of this prohibition. Equivalent rules are to apply to local government enterprises.
We pledge that this is not freedom of expression to mock at religious sensitive issue. An example simplifies the fact; we cannot withstand assault of our mother or father. How can we tolerate that our loved one is being insulted and characterized with the shape of dog or similar disrespectful views. DO NOT HURT OTHERS WITH YOUR WORDS, ACTIONS AND DEEDS; this is basic principle of every religion whether Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism etc. and basic ethical conduct even true for atheist.
Immoral conduct hurts people not only of one sect but human beings all over the world with living conscience.
We the undersigned request the Swedish Government to refrain the proposal of the Government Bill Constitutional protection concerning freedom of expression (Govt. Bill 2009/10:81). As this will severely affect the harmony of people and spread worldwide hatred between religious, orthodox, liberal and atheist masses. The Swedish Government will have to bear negative consequences of spoiled terms with Muslim countries and its economy is going to be weakened.
