La Corte suprema dell'Iran ha confermato la condanna a morte inflitta il 2 dicembre scorso a Yousef Nadarkhani, un giovane religioso cristiano residente nella città di Rasht, sul Mar Caspio. Ne dà notizia l'agenzia di stampa Adnkronos International, citando come fonte il sito web Peykeiran.

Quest'ultimo precisa che il religioso, arrestato nell'ottobre 2009 e da allora rinchiuso nel carcere di Lakan, è stato giudicato colpevole di apostasia. Nadarkhani, nato in una famiglia musulmana, è accusato di essersi convertito dall'islam al cristianesimo. In Iran, l'abbandono dell'islam per un'altra religione è punito con la morte. L'accusato si è difeso sostenendo di aver abbracciato la religione cristiana a diciannove anni e di non avere mai professato prima la fede islamica.

The Iranian Supreme Court upheld the death sentence imposed on December 2 last year to Nadarkhani Yousef, a young Christian religious residing in the city of Rasht on the Caspian Sea. Shall inform the Adnkronos International news agency, citing the website as a source Peykeiran.

The latter states that the cleric was arrested in October 2009 and since then locked up in prison Lakana, was convicted of apostasy. Nadarkhani, born into a Muslim family, is accused of having converted from Islam to Christianity. In Iran, the abandonment of Islam to another religion is punishable by death.
