Paul Barrett (38), from Fethard, Co,Tipperary had the truck he was driving impounded by French customs authorities on March 7. He was not detained and returned to Ireland as a foot passenger by ferry.
A week later, his employer asked him to return to France to collect the truck at Caen. Upon arrival, he was arrested by French police and transferred to Lille where he has been incarcerated.
There has been no explanation from the French Ministry of Justice other than a letter from a court-appointed solicitor informing the family that Paul faces charges “of a serious nature” which are being investigated by a judge.
We, the undersigned, call on the Department of Foreign Affairs to help secure Paul Barrett's release.
