False Medical Projects in Stars Of Science show

A TV show called Stars of Science organized by Qatar Foundation just finished the last season and the winner was Dr Yousef AlAzzozi . His project was about creating a stent with constriction on below the renal arteries in patients with congestive heart failure . He alleged that these patients will improve because the flow will improve to the kidneys and other organs .
The idea is not only naive but has been tested before in animal models in rats and is suggested by some authors to cause congestive heart failure . The title of the published study:A Model of Cardiac Remodeling Through Constriction of the Abdominal Aorta in Rats, by Ku et all

As cardiovascular specialists we are aware of an aortic constriction syndrome called coarctation of aorta and this construction doesnot help pts with heart failure and doesnot increase blood flow to brain in a good way but rather this condition causes congestive heart failure and premature death if untreated if the constriction is not relieved

What Dr Azzouzi suggested is creating an illness a pathology called constriction of aorta that we normally treat , as a way to treat a fatal illness called congestive heart failure
Creating abdominal constriction will cause decreased blood flow to the legs and sexual dysfunction and unlikely to help pts with congestive heart failure

A simple search in medical database system called pubmed would have answered many questions. Additionally there was so much propaganda and exaggeration of this project and others despite the fact that idea may hurt patients , it would not help and if it did not to the magnitude mentioned

We are really shocked to see exaggerated inventions and ideas in our Arab World and I hope that the fake Mr AbdellAti’’s invention in Egypt of a device that kills all HIV and Hepatitis C viruses by 100% become a role model to our Arab scientists and physicians
