Many retail pharmacists work eight or more hours a day without breaks or are so busy that they are not able to use the restroom. Imagine having to safely verify and dispense medications when you have been working all day and cannot focus because you are hungry or just need to use the restroom. Furthermore, short staffing has caused an even more dangerous problem. Some pharmacists will see the entire beginning to end process of filling a prescription or have to rush through a prescription because there are not enough technicians to help. These factors not only are inhumane, but dangerous to patients.

We, the undersigned, call on the American Pharmacists Association to aid in the rights listed below to lobby for safer working conditions for pharmacists:

1. All pharmacists, whether hourly or salary, MUST be allowed a break if their shift is EIGHT or MORE hours per day.

2. A pharmacist MUST never be without a technician in the pharmacy.

3. There MUST be one technician per 100 prescriptions filled in the pharmacy PER day. If state law requires a pharmacist to technician ratio, then another pharmacist must be present in the pharmacy.

By signing this petition,
In turn, pharmacists will be able to provide safer and more efficient patient care to all.
