At present, the State Government is offering School Support Staff, already low-paid workers, only 2.5%. This is only 44 cents/hour and isn’t enough to pay the more than $1,000 in increased bills. This year the State Government have put up water by 10 per cent, gas by 23 per cent and electricity by 25 per cent.
While it is understood that the economic climate has changed, the WA economy is still growing and with big projects like Gorgon on the way it is unfair that the State Government are asking Education Assistants, Cleaners and Gardeners to accept just 2.5%.
The role these workers play is critical to quality educational outcomes in our schools.
Dear Premier,
We the undersigned, support a fair pay rise for the more than 10,000 Education Assistants, Cleaners and Gardeners in state schools. The current wage offer of 44 cents/hour isn't even enough to pay the State Government's increase in living expenses and while we understand the economic climate has changed, this pay offer isn't fair.
The role these workers play is critical to quality educational outcomes in our schools and we urge you to offer them a fair pay deal.
