Extend Teachers Responsibilities to Teach Longer Hours During "Stay At Home"

During this time of stay at home, everyone's customary routine has changed. Many parents have lost their jobs and are struggling to find new ones, while other parents are now working from home. Either way, the pressure of life has been intensified.
On top of that, our children are not able to attend schools and are now learning at home. Via Zoom, an effective online remote conferencing service, school children are able to meet with their teachers, ask questions and receive instruction.
Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is only conferencing with elementary school kids for 30 minutes per day, from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.. The remainder of a child's educational instruction and supervision falls upon a parent who is either working or is looking for work. Why are parents being forced to do the jobs of teachers, who continue to receive full compensation and observe all holidays, minimum days, and late start days just as they had before Covid-19 forced the alteration of the school day?
As our community steps up to deal with the fallout of mandatory Stay-At-Home instructions, the one thing we cannot afford is for our children to fall behind because the LAUSD and Austin Beutner cannot devise a system to educate our children when an appropriate method (Zoom video conferencing) has been used successfully. Additionally, school work is not being checked and graded. A system of scanning documents and submitting files to teachers would solve this issue but the LAUSD has not instituted any sort of submission system.
Therefore, we, the undersigned, call on Austin Beutner and the LAUSD to extend their hours to educate our children for the same duration that existed before the school closure. Additionally, we request a system be devised to allow students to submit their schoolwork to their teachers, and receive grades and feedback to help them in the learning process. Parents are not teachers. It is inappropriate that LAUSD is expecting them to teach in addition to their vocational duties.
