This petition is now closed because apparently, I'm too liberal when it comes to freedom from Type 2's.
Currently, at least in North America, more people die of Diabetes per year than Breast Cancer and AIDS combined.
Most people do not know this nor that Diabetes type 1 is a chronic disease, unlike type 2 where more supplies, rather than just having to take insulin, are available: Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibitors, Biguanides, Glucagon-Like Peptides, Meglitinides, Thiazolidinediones (healthline.com). I've only scratched the surface on that.
Type 1 is a situation when a Diabetics body completely lacks the ability to produce inulin from the food we commonly eat/limits how much Insulin we make.
With type 2 Diabetes, the difference is that their bodies can produce insulin but does not get absorbed by the pancreas yet all these other treatment options are available for those people.
Lastly with type 1, it's straight insulin: Humalog and novolog, for example. That's as black and white as it gets for type 1 Diabetics.
I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 1 in 2006 in the month that recognizes World Diabetes Day (November) which is an amazing coincidence when I created this petition. To all my fellow type 1 Diabetics out there and others who wish to be educated/encouraged, it's time to rise up and alleviate the name Type 2 Diabetes from the disease itself! Most of us know that these two diseases do not involve the same management, with type 1 being a daily hassle.
I'm sure there are other type 1 Diabetics out there, besides myself, who's fed up with seeing commercials of treatment options for only "type 2's". It's indeed depressing and I've had it. By signing my petition, we can make the term "Diabetes" known specifically for type 1 and never again have to hear "type 2" Diabetes because, again, they're not the same thing!
Now I'm not saying that women who have gestational Diabetes are not included, however, for the lucky ones, they only have to live with the burden for less than a year, compared to us type 1's who have it all our lives, some even have being born with it. I'm very passionate about this because it seems like type 2 is more widely known than type 1 which angers me to my core!
If you're tired of living in the shadow like me, please sign my petition and spread the word to other Diabetics and other people as well! Remember, together, we can make this happen!
I want to live as happy as possible with type 1 Diabetes and this will certainly help me as well as the thousands of millions of others who also share my burden.
Spread the word! Thank you for your time!
