At present if you are a male having sex with another male, or you have had sex with a male who has had sex with another male in the last three months you are not allowed to donate blood through Life Blood Australia. It doesn’t matter if it was safe or unsafe sex.
In 2021 this was changed from 12 months to 3 months
The blood you donate is thoroughly tested for any communicable diseases including HIV/AIDS
There for no matter what your sexuality is, you should be allowed to donate blood
We the undersigned, call on Life Blood Australia to allow LGBTQ+ people to donate blood even if sexually active
