End Political Violence in Sierra Leone

United Youth for Peace Building (UYPB) is concerned with the political violence happening in the country over the past four years which is a detergent to existence of national peace and cohesion.
We are even more concerned with the increase of illicit drugs abuse among young people who see drugs as an alternative measure in healing their pains and finding comfort. This act of illicit drug intake has been made public and can been seen in the street of Freetown and even the provincial districts.
As an organization we see this as a social disorder that needs redress, it’s easy to blame these act on high cost of living due to the ongoing crisis in the world, which is affecting the living standards not only that of the unemployed but also the employed, although the unemployed are more affected by the series of crisis that stared in December 2019 and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine that has course price of fuel to increase to Le18,000.00, It seem the government must do more to ease the lives of its citizens and we must be proactive to impact good values in the lives of young people for a harmonious society.
As we approach the forth coming elections, the level of threats and violence seems to be increasing and this is a call for concern as our Police Divisions are undermanned. The recent violence from the past by-elections and the demonstration of August 10, 2022 were both the Police and civilians lost their life’s are examples of the negative developments that need proper reactive measures. As an organization we believe the security sector must be able and prepared to handle such violence and threats, most importantly, they must be able to conduct proper risk and threat assessment to avert any potential violence.
