All children should go to the school that is in the closest proximity to where they reside. No child should be assigned a school and be transported to a further school, unless they choose to do so. These bus times are too long and too early. Children should go to school with their neighborhood friends. The stresses and worries that come along with school of choice is not needed. This is not necessary and Lee County families need this change! School of choice should be used only if you want to apply for a school outside of the school assigned to where you reside.
If a family desires to attend a school out side of their proximity school this is when the school of choice option can be applied for. This is where the waiver is signed and a hardship letter be written. This would when be submitted to the school board for approval.
“We, the undersigned, call on the Lee County School Board to change the School of Choice program to an option for families to apply for, if their proximity school is not the school they prefer to attend. If choosing to apply for another school within the zone, an application process would be available. The school board would approve or deny these applications.
Children should automatically be assigned the school that is within the closest proximity to where they reside. This will allow children to attend school with their neighborhood friends. Also, parents will have an easier time attending school functions and sporting events. Many families have multiple children in different grade schools. Having close proximity schools would allow families to function more convieniently and also create more family time.
