In Nigeria a culture of child servitude has been imbibed. As of today almost 54% of the homes in nigeria have a child in servitude or more commonly called house girl/house boy.
Daily on the news we see videos and images of children who have been violently abused by their masters and madams' a term which is all to similar to those with which slaves addressed their owners not to long ago.
These children are in these situations because their parents do not have the means to cater for them or they have simply been traded to a wealthy relative. Whether the expected outcome of this servitude is money or care for the child it is my firm belief that this represents a transaction with the product being the child. This is wrong and must stop.
I call on the Nigerian government to abolish the practice of children in servitude. 'House boy or how girl'
