The Columbia, MO City Council will vote on Monday, May 21st to begin the process of declaring large parts of Columbia "blighted."
Columbia has the lowest unemployment rate in Missouri, is the hardest working town in the USA, and is among the top places in the country to live, work and raise a family and is far from blighted. Blight also opens the door for eminent domain abuse. Blight, however, is the prerequisite for forming an Enhanced Enterprise Zone where a few big businesses will have their state and local taxes abated. The EEZ amounts to simple corporate welfare. There is no evidence that suggests that corporate welfare schemes create jobs.
Please limit signatures to residents of the City of Columbia, Missouri.
We, the undersigned citizens of Columbia, MO, call on the Columbia City Council to stop the plan to blight Columbia and to refrain from allowing corporate welfare via an Enhance Enterprise Zone.
