Many people I know have suffered from the outdated systems within the DVLA. So I am suggesting that the DVLA update their systems so that people can register cars and buy road tax in a far quicker way than the present system allows for.
I Passed my CBT on Sunday and arranged my Insurance first thing Monday morning, but as my Scooter is new it is yet unregistered, so the insurance company kindly faxed a copy of the cover note through to the garage I am buying my Scooter from. However since their are staggered postal strikes on at the moment, the actual paperwork has not yet arrived from the insurer and is not likely to until Friday at the earliest meaning that the soonest I can register my Scooter is next Monday, a whole week after i should have been able to do it!
The DVLA have informed me that even though there are postal strikes on at the moment that they are still not accepting faxed or emailed documentation which is pathetic, as the insurance is noted on a database that the DVLA can access instantly if they have any doubts about the validity of the copy of the document in question.
It also occured to me that many people I know have had similar problems with the DVLA when it comes to having to have the ORIGINAL copy of the insurance certificate!
Why is this the case in a world with emails and faxes, because (a) using email would reduce paper usage which would be greener, and (b) it would make the system so much quicker and far more efficient than having to rely on the postal service, as email is instant, and lets face it, all the insurance certificate is, is a normal printed letter which would be very easy to fake if you wanted to, so using the excuse of security is futile.
We need modernisation.
If the system isn't working for the people...then change it!
We, the undersigned, call on the DVLA to update its system so that faxed or emailed copies of insurance certificates can be used to register vehicles or obtain road tax, as the current system is no longer working for the people for whom it was put in place.
