On Tuesday February 8th 2011, the Planning Committee of South Lanarkshire Council took the decision to grant detailed planning permission to the Dovesdale Incinerator facility.
The Council planning department has overlooked the objections of almost 20,000 local residents who submitted written objections to the proposal.
Under old rules, the Council would have been compelled to involve the Scottish Government as the development is sited in our green belt and contrary to the local development plan.
The SNP's changes to planning rules have removed this requirement however they still have the power to call in the decision for independent review.
I share the disappointment and anger of local residents about this decision and as the MSP for Clydesdale I will oppose it using every avenue open to me.
I am therefore petitioning the SNP Government to call in the decision for independent review. Please sign this petition today.
We the undersigned call on the SNP government to call in the decision by South Lanarkshire Council Planning Committee to grant detailed planning permission for the Dovesdale Incinerator Facility.
In doing so we ask Ministers to recognise the overwhelming local opposition to the development, the fact that it would be located on land designated as green belt, the fact that it is contrary to the local development plan and the fact that South Lanarkshire Council have a conflict of interest relating to their future use of the facility.
