The impending new parking restrictions on Maiden Lane between Bonaventure Avenue Ne and Barnett Street NE will remove the parking spaces necessary to accommodate the area residents. On any given evening, there can be twenty-five cars or more parked along Maiden Lane. It is a highly-populated area with a significant concentration of apartment buildings. Currently, the street parking in the surrounding area is already congested and there is not adequate space for an additional twenty-five cars.

Most of the residents in the area are young professionals/young families and a significant number of vagrants that have been displaced due to the closing of the homeless shelter on the neighboring block. The high crime rate for the area is a major concern for residents required to walk blocks from their cars to their homes at night.

The residents acknowledge that currently, emergency vehicles could not maneuver through the street with cars parked on both sides and would like a revision of the impending regulation change to be parking restricted to only one side of the street. This would provide parking that is vital to the residents and allow safe passage of emergency vehicles.

We, the undersigned, call on the City of Atlanta Office of Transportation to change the impending Parking Restrictions on Maiden Lane from No Parking on either side of the street to Parking restricted to only one side of the street.

This would provide parking that is vital to the residents and allow safe passage of emergency vehicles.
