Disney Junior channel features a commercial that focuses on young girls/women. The commercial encourages these young girls by informing them in an uplifting way that they can be anything they put their minds to.
In the Disney Parks Blog, the following is stated about the commercial, "Disney’s new “Dream Big, Princess” campaign...will bring these great stories front and center to inspire girls and kids around the world to realize their full potential and dream big". However, there is not ONE boy featured in the commercial.
I have two young boys at home (ages 7 and 5) who get very sad and confused every time they see this commercial. Every time it airs, which is at least twice every thirty minutes, they ask the following question, "When are they going to show the Princes?"
In our household, we encourage our young boys. We let them know that they can do anything they want, even if it is a traditional "female" job. I think it is important for Disney Junior to also focus on our young men who aspire to do great things when they grow up. Let these young men see that Disney Junior cares about them and their future.
