Thank you EVER SO MUCH to everyone that signed this petition. After emailing the Central Office of Mooresville Graded School District, I had an appointment the very next day for a meeting with one of their representatives. We spoke and he had a major appreciation for everyone involved, along with every signee of the petition. He said that the board would review editing the Code of Conduct to add some more stipulations related to videotaped acts of violence on students.
After school started back I got my hands on an updated Code of Conduct book and sadly there was no mention of anything involved with our petition. However, Thanks to every single one of you, MGSD families, and families around the world have shown that bullying will NOT be tolerated throughout schools. I'd like to thank you again, for all of your support.
You really did make a difference.
On the Twentieth of March of 2012, while riding a Mooresville Senior High School to N.F. Woods Arts and Technology Center shuttle bus, a young man sat down in a seat with a young woman. The young woman then became belligerent, and began raising her voice and pushing him. Another young woman began recording this. This video was later posted on a social networking site.
When brought to the attention of the administration of MHS, they reacted very quickly with an immediate suspension of five days out of school. While commending Mooresville Senior High School for it's prompt and proper reaction to this viral video, the students believe that the time of Out of School Suspension was not enough.
This petition is not aimed toward lengthening the amount of OSS time that the young woman from the bus was given, but to set a new minimum disciplinary standard in bullying cases with irrefutable evidence to prove the misconduct of a student.
The current policy for discipline against Bullying in the Mooresville Graded School District Code of Conduct states that disciplinary action can be the following:
"Ranging from in-school disciplinary action up to 10 days OSS. Repeated violations may result in a recommendation for longterm suspension. Law enforcement may be contacted."
In bullying cases such as the one that occurred on the Mooresville Senior High School to N.F. Woods Arts and Technology Center shuttle bus on the day of March 20, 2012, where there is video-graphical evidence of the misconduct of a student, a bare minimum of Ten days out of school suspension should be served. By signing, or e-signing this document, you agree that this is a fair punishment for the misconduct committed.
