On 11 July 2026, the FIFA World Cup quarter-final between England and Norway became one of the most controversial matches of the tournament. Several refereeing and VAR decisions had a decisive impact on the outcome of the game and have since sparked widespread debate among football supporters, journalists and former players.
The disallowed Norwegian goal, the controversial equalising goal for England, and other key decisions have led many fans—including supporters from both Norway and England—to question whether the match was officiated fairly and consistently.
Football is built on integrity, transparency and fair play. When a World Cup knockout match is overshadowed by multiple controversial decisions that directly influence the result, confidence in the competition is damaged.
We, the undersigned, respectfully call on FIFA to arrange a fair rematch between England and Norway.
We believe the controversy surrounding the officiating and VAR decisions prevented the quarter-final from being decided solely by the players on the pitch. A rematch would give both teams the opportunity to compete under fair and consistent officiating, ensuring that the result reflects sporting merit rather than disputed decisions.
This petition is not directed against England or its players. It is a call for fairness, transparency and the protection of football’s integrity. We urge FIFA to demonstrate its commitment to fair play by granting a fair rematch between England and Norway.
