This petition is regarding the recent problematic and insensitive sexual harassment posters that have been spotted in MRT’s insinuating that molesting someone is either “worth it” or not.
Amidst the recent devastating and infuriating sexual harassment cases in Singapore, we urge readers to act now and demand change!
Too many people have become victims of sexual assault/ harassment that can have devastating and long-lasting effects on their mental and physical health. Singapore’s authorities have so far taken a stance that is not aligned with the public’s need for justice.
A change must be made in the way Singapore handles sexual harassment cases!

We, the undersigned, urge Singapore’s National Crime Prevention Council & the Singapore Police Force to remove their problematic sexual harassment campaign posters and to seriously rethink their unsound advertisement slogan.
Incensing and incredibly problematic advertisements in MRT’s and other public places have been put up announcing that it is not “worth it” to molest someone due to the 2 year prison sentence. These advertisements have been endorsed by the Singapore Police Force and National Crime Prevention Council, as seen by the logos beneath the poster. The poster depicts a man’s hand reaching out to molest a woman, the tag around his hand reads “2 Years Imprisonment. It is not worth it.”
We find this advertisement highly insulting and belittling of a victim’s trauma, in that the offense is phrased as something that can be either “worth it” or “not worth it”. The suggestion by this advertisement that sexual assault can be measured in “worthiness” is extremely upsetting and not to mention- a tremendously troubling and dangerous mentality for a national crime prevention authority to take.
Sexual assault and harassment in public transport (and in Singapore society in general) is unfortunately rampant, and the manner in which this advertisement approaches the matter is insensitive and problematic to say the least.
This petition urges the Singapore Crime Prevention Council and the Singapore Police Force to create advertisements that put the onus on the molesters (or would-be molesters) to be decent human beings and not violate other people’s bodies, and if need be, offer resources to help those who have urges to molest others. Rather than simply telling the public that molesting someone is not even worth their time due to the possible 2 year sentence. This is not only incredibly hurtful and insensitive to victims of sexual assault and/or harassment but also tells a dangerous narrative of Singapore’s authority’s disconcerting stance against sexual harassment.
We urge the relevant authorities to remove these posters and to STOP perpetuating problematic tropes in society regarding sexual harassment!
