What is the Trans Pacific Partnership between countries? Basically it is an agreement whereby a Corporation can sue a government for loss of revenue due to any environmental, health, safety or labor laws and regulations instituted by that country.
Should a mining operation for example, pollute the ground water or destroy the flora and fauna, and the law requires this Corporation to rehabilitate the area, which will cost that Corporation revenue, then the agreement entitles them to sue the government in question for this loss. In other words, the tax payer will be paying the Corporation to adhere to environmental, health, safety and labor regulations at no cost to themselves.
Should South Africa ever joined this or any other similar partnership: South Africa would be obliged to conform all their domestic laws and regulations to the TPP’s rules—in effect, a corporate coup d’état. The proposed pact would limit even how governments can spend their tax income. Buy South Africa and other Buy Local procurement preferences that invest in the South African economy would be banned, and “sweat-free,” human rights or environmental conditions on government contracts could be challenged. If the TPP comes to fruition, its retrograde rules could be altered only if all countries agreed, regardless of domestic election outcomes or changes in public opinion.

We, the undersigned would like to draw your attention to the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement which is of the greatest concern to all South Africans.
If South Africa joined- South Africa would be obliged to conform all their domestic laws and regulations to the TPP’s rules—in effect, a corporate coup d’état. The proposed pact would limit even how governments can spend their tax income. We find that this free trade agreement, although offering a promise of job creation, in fact undermines our Constitution and Bill of Rights, and appeal to the Democratic Alliance and Zwelinzima Vavi (COSATU) to oppose such an agreement, should it ever be considered in this country, and to educate and inform all South Africans of the danger facing us through such agreements that would support the concept of Corporate Fascist Colonialism.
