This petition calls for the creation of designated clothing-optional zones within national parks and on public trails across Australia. It is not a call for widespread nudity, but for reasonable, respectful accommodation of naturists who seek a deeper connection with nature through clothing-optional experiences.
Naturism promotes body acceptance, environmental awareness, and mental well-being — values that align strongly with the goals of protected public spaces. In countries like Germany, France, and New Zealand, clothing-optional areas have existed peacefully for decades with no increase in indecency or harm to the public.
By establishing clearly marked and responsibly managed zones, Australia can uphold personal freedom, support tourism and wellness, and reduce the stigma around non-sexual nudity. This initiative ensures respect for both naturists and non-naturists, encouraging inclusivity, public safety, and harmony with nature.
We, the undersigned, call for the introduction of clearly marked clothing-optional zones in selected national parks and public trails across Australia. This initiative would support body autonomy, eco-tourism, mental health, and respectful access to nature — while maintaining the rights of textile users through signage and zoning.
Naturism, when practised respectfully, is not sexual, obscene, or offensive. It is a peaceful, body-positive, and environmentally conscious way to connect with the natural world.
Australia already has beaches that support clothing-optional use, but natural trails and bushwalking areas remain legally unclear or restrictive, despite the low risk and high benefit of allowing designated access.
We respectfully request:
National parks authorities to establish designated clothing-optional trails and picnic areas with clear signage and entry/exit rules
A legal framework allowing local rangers and councils to create such zones with community input and consent
Mutual respect principles for both clothed and unclothed users, including clear codes of conduct, no-photography rules, and zero tolerance for harassment
This initiative supports:
Mental health benefits through nature immersion and body acceptance
Tourism growth, including domestic and international naturist visitors
Environmental appreciation, by encouraging respectful, minimalist use of public lands
This petition is part of NaturismRE’s cultural reform platform promoting sustainable, respectful access to natural spaces for all.
