To Whom It May Concern:
Residents of Northeast Queens who commute to and from Lower Manhattan are upset that there is a lack of an Express Bus option to and from Lower Manhattan as there is only an Express Bus to Midtown. Many Northeast Queens residents who commute to Lower Manhattan make two transfers in order to get to Lower Manhattan, even with the use of an Express Bus. If these riders don’t transfer twice, the only convenient options for these riders is to use the 4, 5, and 6 Subway lines which are the most crowded Subway lines in the entire Subway system, in addition to the R train which is known as the “rarely” and comes less often than the average Subway line and is generally crowded and unreliable. Also, Northeast Queens residents who do not use the Express Bus generally elect to use the Long Island Rail Road in order to only have to transfer once and to avoid the use of the 4, 5, and 6 Subway lines. However, a lot of these Northeast Queens residents who use the Long Island Rail Road to get to and from Lower Manhattan are tired of having to pay a lot of money for a two seat ride as these riders have to pay for both a MetroCard and a Long Island Rail Road ticket; and the Long Island Rail Road does not cover a lot of the areas in Northeast Queens. Furthermore, Lower Manhattan is a business district which is being revitalized and improved with our taxpayer money, especially after September 11th. What we need in Northeast Queens is one-seat access to and from Lower Manhattan so it could be easier to access Lower Manhattan and cheaper to access Lower Manhattan for those who currently use the Long Island Rail Road. Furthermore, in order to encourage people to take jobs in a revitalized Lower Manhattan and to go to a revitalized Lower Manhattan in general, the MTA Bus Company must improve the transportation infrastructure and Northeast Queens is a good market for a one-seat Express Bus to and from Lower Manhattan as there is a lot of current and potential ridership between Northeast Queens and Lower Manhattan.
We the undersigned are in support of and urge the MTA Bus Company to provide an Express Bus route between Northeast Queens and Lower Manhattan which would operate a similar routing to the QM20 in Queens, and operate directly to and from Lower Manhattan.
