The land at the end of Reid St. in Vaudreuil-Dorion is small wetland.
Agriculture, industry and urban expansion continue to threaten Québec’s remaining wetland ecosystems.
The residents of Tree Farm want the construction stopped and the wetland conserved.
We the undersigned are concerned citizens who petition the city of Vaudreuil-Dorion to conserve the Wetland located in the area of Tree Farm at the end of Reid st. in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
• This privately owned lot of Wetland has remained untouched while the area of Tree Farm was developed in the 1980s. Residents felt assured it would never be built on due the fact that it is a Wetland and not suitable foundation for construction. For years there was never an interested buyer for those reasons, until recently. Ownership has changed hands and plans to destroy the Wetland by clear cutting the area and building a house after approximately 100 truckloads of backfill have been dumped are underway! As a result the residents are deeply saddened by this impending loss to the beautiful green space that completes the road into Tree Farm. Albeit too small for the Minister of Environment of Quebec to legally protect, every Wetland is important. Up to 70 per cent of wetlands have disappeared in settled areas of Canada.
• We the residents need the city of Vaudreuil-Dorion to take action to acquire this land and conserve it so that we may enjoy the beauty and the wildlife that have taken root there can remain undisturbed.
