The Giza Necropolis in Egypt which houses the three pyramids, the only remaining ancient wonder of the world and the sphinx has been subjected to utter abuse and negligence from the government and by the hands of the employees that reside and work at the touristic attraction.
Abuses include verbal abuse towards the tourists, vandalizing the site with their horses and camels, illegal activities and last but not least; the video documented hammering off chunks of the blocks off the pyramids to sell to tourists.
This following petition aims to gather the signatures of 250,000 people that would like to see the Giza necropolis saved from the butchering hands of people who do not understand the significance of the site.
This petition aims to:
Ban the following workers and services from the site permanently;
1- horse and camel rentals ( the animals desecrate the site with their fecal matter and the workers do not clean up after them, the site is covered in fecal matters and many areas smell of urine) ;
2- souvenir sellers (they harass, abuse, and turn every tourist's experience at the pyramids in to a nightmare, with many reported incidents that involved physical and sexual harassment) ;
3- local guards (another source of trouble at the site, offering tourists tours for a fee, and the tours usually includes false information as the guards are illiterate);
4- the relocation of the heavily populated area around the necropolis and clearing the area for further archaeological studies;
5- the removal of fast food restaurants from the area. its cringe worthy to look out the window of a pizza hut at the sphinx;
6- the area around the pyramid past the workers village needs to be declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.
We propose:
1- horse and camels rentals will be replaced by golf carts that are run by a single company at a fixed fare with designated stops through out the site;
2- souvenir sellers will be completely banned from entering the site; one or two locations outside the necropolis can be dedicated for commercial rentals;
3- the relocation of the heavily populated areas around the pyramid and using the space for smaller museums and further excavations;
4- the eradication of irrelevant commercial activities that can be replaced with art centers, restaurants that offer ancient Egyptian snacks etc;
5- while UNESCO does not run sites, their involvement will be highly appreciated in preserving and maintaining the scarcity of the site.
