We, the undersigned, citizen/residents of Canada, property owners and residents in Ontario draw the attention of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to the following:
THAT the proposal for a Cumberland Quarry on Concession 11, Severn Township, Ontario should be rejected. The quarry is proposed to be built in an environmentally protected and greenlands zone. We are concerned with: the negative impact to safe drinking water and volume, wildlife and plant ecosystems, including, but not limited to, destruction of the surrounding wetlands, the negative consequences to human health as a result of dust particles, including known carcinogens, damage to residential roads and concerns with the safety of children, adults and animals due to reckless driving by quarry vehicles, and decrease in property values. In addition, this quarry is proposed mere kilometers from many lakes, rivers and drinking wells. A new quarry could have a severe impact on the quantity and quality of spring-fed water and groundwater, and potential disruption to the aquifer.
THEREFORE, your petitioners request the Legislative Assembly of Ontario
Prevent the rezoning of the proposed Cumberland quarry, expand the environmentally protected designation for the surrounding wetland area and reject that this quarry, or any proposed quarry in future, should be built on this land.
