הנדון: בקשה לציון הכפר שיח-מוַנִּס בשטח האוניברסיטה ובפרסומיה

שלום רב.
אנו, תלמידים ועובדים של אוניברסיטת תל-אביב ותומכיהם, פונים אליך בבקשה כי תפעל למען ציון הפרק המושתק בהיסטוריה של המוסד – היותו בנוי על אדמותיו של הכפר הפלסטיני שיח-מונס שנחרב ב-1948 ואשר תושביו הפכו מאז לפליטים.
ניתן למשל לאזכר את הכפר על-ידי התקנת לוחיות זיכרון, כפי שמקובל באתרים רבים ברחבי העולם ובארץ, או בדרכים נוספות רבות. במיוחד חשוב לדעתנו להקפיד לגלות לציבור את עברו של מועדון האוניברסיטה, הבית הירוק, שהיה בגלגולו הקודם ביתה של משפחת אבו-כחיל משיח-מונס. מבנה זה הוא אחד השרידים הבודדים כיום לבתי הכפר, אך קורותיו אלה בולטות כיום בהעדרן מפרסומים רשמיים של אוניברסיטת תל-אביב. מן הראוי לכבד גם את זכר בית הקברות של הכפר, שחלק מחניוני האוניברסיטה הוקמו למרבה הצער על שטחו.
דווקא על האוניברסיטה, כמוסד מוביל שעוסק בחקר האמת וחשיפתה, מוטלת לדעתנו יותר מכל החובה המוסרית לנקוט צעד כה חשוב של הכרה באמת ההיסטורית, שמפורטת בין השאר במחקרים שנעשו באוניברסיטת תל-אביב עצמה. לא פחות מכך יהווה צעד זה מחווה של פיוס, מהסוג שכה נדרש בימים אלו. בעוד מדינת ישראל מציינת בתקופה זאת את שנתה השישים, מונים הפלסטינים השנה שישה עשורים לאסונם – הנכבה. טוב תעשה לדעתנו האוניברסיטה אם אחרי תקופה כה ארוכה היא תבחר לתרום להפסקת ההתעלמות מגורלו של העם הפלסטיני והסתרת זכר נוכחותו. נודה לך אם תסכים להיפגש עם נציגים מבין חותמי מכתב זה, אנשי אוניברסיטת תל אביב, כדי להמשיך ולדון על הנושא.
מכתב זה מצטרף למכתב קודם בנושא שנשלח ב-28.10.03 לנשיא האוניברסיטה דאז, פרופ' איתמר רבינוביץ', בשם עובדים וסטודנטים של האוניברסיטה, צאצאי המשפחות הפלסטיניות אשר התגוררו בשיח מונס עד ארבעים ושמונה, וחברי עמותת "זוכרות". המכתב הקודם מצורף כנספח.

الموضوع: طلب لذكر قرية الشيخ مونّس بحرم الجامعة وإعلاناتها

سلام وبعد،
نحن، طلاب وموظفي جامعة تل أبيب ومؤيديهم، نتوجه إليك بطلب لتعمل من أجل ذكر الحقبة المتجاهلة عمدا من تاريخ المؤسسة – كونه مبنيا على أراض القرية الفلسطينية الشيخ مونّس التي هدمت ب-1948 والتي تحول سكانها منذ ذلك الحين إلى مهجرين.
من الممكن مثلا ذكر القرية عن طريق نصب تذكاري، كما هو متبّع بالعديد من المواقع بالعالم والبلاد، أو بشتى الطرق الأخرى. وبرأينا، بالأخص التشديد على إحاطة الجمهور علما بتاريخ نادي الجامعة، البيت الأخضر، الذي كان بالسابق بيت عائلة أبو كحيل من الشيخ مونس، هذه البناية التي تشكل إحدى آخر ما تبقى من أنقاض القرية، لكن تاريخه ما زال واضحا مع غيابه من نشرات الجامعة الرسمية لجامعة تل أبيب. من الجدير أيضا احترام ذكرى مقبرة القرية، التي أقيم على أنقاضها قسم من مواقف سيارات الجامعة.
على الجامعة بالذات، كمؤسسة تعنى بالبحث عن الحقيقة ونشرها، تقع المسؤولية الأخلاقية الكبرى لاتخاذ خطوات مهمة كهذه للاعتراف بحقائق تاريخية، بعضها موجود بأبحاث أجريت بجامعة تل أبيب نفسها. وعلى القدر نفسه من الأهمية تعتبر هذه خطوة مصالحة، التي نحن بأشد الحاجة إليها بهذه الأيام. في حين تحتفل دولة إسرائيل بعيد استقلالها الستين، يتمم الفلسطينيون عقدهم السادس منذ مصابهم الجلل – النكبة. برأينا لو تختار الجامعة المساهمة بوقف تجاهل مصير الشعب الفلسطيني ومحو ذكره خيرا تكون قد فعلت. نكون ممتنين لك إن توافق مقابلة ممثلين من موقعي هذه الرسالة، من جامعة تل أبيب، لتكملة النقاش حول الموضوع.
هذه الرسالة تنضم لرسالة أخرى بنفس الموضوع التي أرسلت بتاريخ 28.10.03 لعميد الجامعة حينها، بروفسور ايتامار ربينوفيتش، باسم موظفي وطلاب الجامعة، العائلات الفلسطينية التي سكنت القرية حتى سنة 1948، وأعضاء جمعية "ذاكرات". الرسالة السابقة مرفقة كملحق.

Re: A request for commemoration of the village of Sheikh Muwanis on campus and in university publications

Dear Sir,

We, students and employees of Tel Aviv University and their supporters, hereby request that you take action to commemorate a chapter in the history of our institution which has heretofore been silenced – the fact of its erection on the lands of the Palestinian village of Sheikh Muwanis, which was destroyed in 1948 and its residents forced to become refugees.

Commemoration is possible through many means, for example the construction of memorial markers, as is common around the world and in Israel. We consider it particularly important to make public the past of the university club, the "Green House", formerly the home of the Abu-Kahil family of Sheikh Muwanis. This building is one of the sole remnants of the village, but its history is absent from the official publications of the University. It would also be appropriate to respect the memory of the village's cemetery, upon which many university parking lots have unfortunately been constructed.

In our opinion, a leading institution dedicated to the search for and revelation of the truth, such as Tel Aviv University, is morally obliged to take this important step of recognition of historical truth – documented among other places in research done at the University itself. In addition, this is a gesture of rapprochement of the kind which we deem very necessary at the present moment. While Israel celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of its foundation, the Palestinian people are marking six decades since their national catastrophe, the Nakbah. After such a long delay, the University would do well to act against the willful ignorance of the plight of the Palestinian people and the deliberate erasure of its presence. We would appreciate it if you would agree to meet with a delegation of the signatories to this letter to discuss the topic.‬

This letter recaps the content of a previous letter, sent on 28 October 2003 to then-University President, Prof. Itamar Rabinowitz, by students and employees of the University, the descendants of the residents of Sheikh Muwanis, and the members of Zokhrot organization.
