City of Rome, NY Code of Ordinances states the following under Sec. 70-206:
"Overnight parking.
(a) Except as otherwise provided herein, no vehicle shall be parked or left standing unattended between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on any street or roadway in the city from November 1 of each year until March 31 of the following year."
This ban is to allow for snow removal. However, there are times during this ban period when the roads and/or ground are completely free of snow.
Many tickets are still issued even though the purpose of the ban is irrelevant at the time. Many residences in the city have inadequate parking.
Also this time period is when many people are visiting families in the city from out of state. This further reduces the available parking needed by the additional vehicles present.
We feel that when there is no need for snow removal that the on-street overnight parking ban should not be in effect.
We, the undersigned, call on the City of Rome Common Council to modify the current parking ban to only apply during inclement winter weather.
