On Friday 26th July, 2013 Channel 4 broadcasted an episode of the television special Countdown/8 Out Of 10 Cats mashup.
During a segment of the programme, host Jimmy Carr placed two baskets of small cats/kittens onto the presenting table as a visual gag designed to distract contestants. The animals repeatedly attempted to climb out of the baskets and could be heard making noises.
We, the undersigned, call on David Abraham (Channel Four Chief Executive) to carry out a full investigation into why live animals were permitted to be used for entertainment in front of a studio audience.
We ask for a commitment from Mr Abraham that Channel 4 will forbid the use of live animals in all programmes filmed in front of a studio audience.
