I am starting this petition because I am sick of seeing convicted sex offenders being let into our communities after a short sentence, some ineffective treatment that statistics and the news stories clearly show don’t work because:
Approximately 67% of all victims of reported sexual assaults are under the age of 18, and more than half of these victims are under the age of 12.
Approximately one in four girls and one in seven boys are sexually assaulted before the age of 18.
''More than 1/2 of all convicted sex offenders are sent back to prison within a year. Within 2 years, 77.9% are back.'' - California Department of Correction
And that’s just California.
Plea deals with the justice system (prosecutors and defense lawyers alike) for less time are common, and then criminals are free to roam our neighborhoods so parents have to live in constant fear.
Over and over I see Pedophiles get nothing (I mean time in prison and the aftermath for such a horrific crime that strips the innocence of children away from them and can not defend themselves against) for either attempting or actually carrying out disgusting acts on minor children because of laws that are in place which protect the Pedophile, such as in CT the age of consent to have sex is 16 years, no matter how mature your 16 year old is or not a Pedophile can attempt to contact that child for sex acts and there is nothing a parent can do to protect her child from this monster.
I know this because I live in CT and my 16 year old was contacted by a 51 year old man who was trying to lure him into sex acts but because of his age there is nothing I can do, and in CT these monsters know that ( a law that protects them so they can get away with it period.) Or how about entrapment (give me a break) so a Pedophile can turn around and sue the courts which leads Law Enforcement with their hands tied behind their backs.
I read a petition to take down the registry because of the mark it leaves on people and the harm it does to the individual and their families act. I was sick to my stomach reading the pity excuses being made to try to get it taken down, Imp not saying its ever right to be a vigilante but too bad it is there to leave a mark if you didn’t commit the crime you would have nothing to worry about, what about the VICTIM that has to live with what happened to them and their families? The sex offender registry does not need to come down it needs to be improved 100%.
''There are 400,000 registered sex offenders in the United States, and an estimated 80 to 100,000 of them are missing. They're supposed to be registered, but we don't know where they are and we don't know where they're living.'' - Ernie Allen, President of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
I myself have dealt with the inconsistencies of this site, like the picture of such a person could be as old as there first offense or you may think this person is sill being monitored but they aren’t or last known address is no good because he/she is no longer under supervision so the information is not true information and no one looks for them because they served their time so they are not on anyone’s radar anymore so they are out there in our neighborhoods left up to us to monitor.
In America if you are a convicted felon you loose the right to carry a weapon ever again and if you are caught with one weather you commit a crime or not you go down no questions asked all they do is look you up and identify you as a felon and if you have a gun your being arrested on the spot but that doesn’t happen to convicted sex offenders unless they are under parole or probation but once the time is up so is the right to catch them and have them arrested on the spot.
That’s because our laws protect them, you have to go through so much to have them re-arrested, proof that they are contacting your child is not enough but if I am a felon and Imp caught with a gun an officer can arrest me right then and there and that’s all the proof they need. The laws need to be stricter for these type of crimes once they are caught and convicted they should never be able to contact a minor under the age of 18 EVER under any means no matter if they are under supervision or not it should be a LAW and if they are caught and can be 100% identified they are arrested on the spot, the sex offender registry needs to be improved to real time information there should be no mercy for these type of people no privacy laws protecting them they steal the innocence of children away that can never be replaced so they should never be out of the public eye always supervised by Law Enforcement and the Public. They are a danger to our innocent defenseless children PERIOD.
I'm not sure how to be heard but this is a start please sign this with me for all the children who cant defend themselves to try to change laws to be more in favor of our children for once rather then the scumbags who know right from wrong and use the system to continue to practice what I call evil on earth.
We, the undersigned, call on tougher laws for Sex Offenders so our Children can be properly protected.
