Let us not forget that the inspiration for the voluptuous, vivacious, vixen, who slammed her tentacles down into the Disney animated feature "The Little Mermaid" in 1989 came from the infamous, legendary, groundbreaking, and door opening Queen, DIVINE.
We all know that this classic Hans Christian Andersen story is being going to be made into a live action film. Also, it is "rumored" to be helmed/directed by the talented, ingenious, Sofia Coppola.
Only one thing can be said. Give it life! Give that evil temptress, that diabolical, and that fabulous villainess the smart casting choice as it, SHE, should have. A Male lead! Make Ursula a Drag Queen!
Whether we ring up Harvey Fierstein for the role, ask RuPaul is she's up for expanding her empire and talent, or tap an unknown talented Queen who has a smoldering, smokers voice beyond time and space. This role needs to give home to it's modern day inspiration.
So I say we shout from the depths of the ocean, and let the winds of the Caspian sea carry our voices!
Lets encourage that thought beyond the common place. Lets break ground and open up the stage where brilliance has danced before in such works as "Hairspray" "Tootsie" "Girls Will be Girls" and "Die Mommie Die" (to name a few.)
Let's make Ursula as fierce as she was meant to be and is! ;-) Divinely Drag!
