Over the years the Disney has been representing fairytales of relatively similar backgrounds, and only began expanding their cultural content at the turn of the century. This petition calls for diversity and inclusion of children of all backgrounds. "Princess and the Frog" (2009) was the first Disney cartoon to include an African American storyline and "Mulan" (1998) was a groundbreaking representation of Asian culture in the Disney family. "Pocahontas" (1995) was an accurate historical depiction of a romantic story set in the New World. Although the cultural expansion was allowing more children around the globe to relate to such fairytales, children that grow up with chronic/terminal illnesses still feel "outcasted" by Disney's storylines.
This petition calls Disney to create a fairytale storyline with a child that is battling cancer/chronic illness so that terminally ill children all over the world have a chance to be represented, to feel normal and to have a chance at living an inspiring fairytale.
