In last week's General Election, the Liberal Democrat party stood on a progressive platform, promising fairness, internationalism and electoral reform.
Cambridge constituents believed this message, with 39.1% choosing Julian Huppert as their MP. What is more 24.3% voted Labour and 7.6% voted Green. This points to a clear progressive majority of 71% amongst Cambridge residents.
However, on Friday May 7th Mr Huppert was quoted in the Cambridge Evening News, saying he would be willing to consider a Lib-Con coalition. We feel any such coalition would be a clear betrayal of Liberal Democrat principles, and would constitute a betrayal of the wishes expressed by the Cambridge electorate on May 6th. Mr Huppert is now the MP for all Cambridge residents, and should listen to the clear progressive majority and reject any attempt to form a Lib-Con coalition.

We, the undersigned residents of Cambridge, call on Julian Huppert to respect the wishes we expressed on May 6th, and reject a Liberal-Conservative coalition in Westminster.
