The first Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payments (AGDRP) have been made available to QLD flood victims.
Ten Local Govt Areas affected by flooding in Northern NSW will also have access to joint-funded national disaster assistance. Inspecting flood damage in Bundaberg.
From Julia Gillard’s Facebook page. Spent a couple of hours today in Wagga Wagga helping with the clean up http://t.co/T7aa0f7l
From Tony Abbotts Facebook page, Meeting Gympie dairy farmer John Cochrane to discuss the impact of the floods on the town's businesses. – PT; I would like to pay tribute to all involved, not just with this experience but to everyone doing an amazing job in Bundaberg. The devastation in Bundy and surrounding areas is difficult to fathom, the recovery will take a long time and a lot of money. It is heartbreaking that people are unwilling to donate to the Qld Floods appeal on the grounds that they want to make a political point. Have a look at some of the photos and try to imagine if it was your home, street or business that had been destroyed.
From Campbell Newman’s Facebook page. We are unable to control Mother Nature. The Netherlands is below sea level and they don’t get wet. Using our available knowledge and experience to provide, responsible and effective infrastructure, Roads to be road train rated, and above train lines allowing water flow, rather than damming are areas to be addressed in times of high rainfall.
The expenses thrown onto the flood affected citizens and the relief grants, from the Government to help rebuild their lives, after trauma, would be minimised if the aforementioned areas were addressed. Monies spent on the improvements will be saved in prevention of the devasting blows felt by flood affected regions.
We the undersigned call for responsible and effective infrastructure, Australia-wide, to allow water flow, and avoid back flow or damming, for roads to be road train rated, above rail lines (again allowing water flow).
We petition to prevent ongoing personal loss to the communities affected by flooding in high rainfall periods.
