Hello I have come into a situation recently that isn’t just recent but continuous! Each year my 2 high school boys have attended after school care to the Boys and Girls Club Richmond! We would always get guided to filling out a form (the alternate transportation) to get things processing! Each year we wind up having to go through the same back and forth of “the district doesn’t utilize this for the older group, or did you fill out a form” Yes I did everything that was told! It usually takes numerous back and forth efforts until they end up getting it in place! Now they are trying to eliminate that as an option!
We, the Parents of Lamar Junior High School and Lamar High School Students, call on the LCISD District to set in place a transportation route and stop within the blue track! My reasons in addressing this matter are as follows:
The Boys and Girls Club of Richmond offers not just to the Elementary and Middle School level but also to the Junior High and High School level the following:
• Homework help, tutoring, mentorship
• Mental health support and social-emotional development
• Leadership programs, sports, meals, and a safe space after school
• For many students, this is their only access to structured, positive activities between school and home
Another factor to address is
. Transportation is a barrier for many students:
• Some students don’t qualify for late buses
• Others live too far to walk safely, especially in bad weather
• Families may not have vehicles or flexible work schedules to provide rides
• Students are missing out on vital services simply because they can’t get there
Lastly:
Your school already has transportation resources available:
• Buses are already running in the afternoons
• The Boys & Girls Club is often less than 5 miles away
• Routing one bus or van to stop at the Club would serve multiple students with minimal cost increase
