It has been rumored that one of the most important and most loved characters from the novels that True Blood is based on will not be in the show. Apparently Alan Ball thinks that if he puts Bubba in the show it will be too campy. He says, "We’re not going to see Bubba.
There is no way to do it, if it’s not Elvis. There’s just no way to do it without it being lame, so we’re not going to do it. The only way I thought about it was to have a guy who we never saw the face of, but then it felt like that guy from Home Improvement." I very much love this show but I think it mixes slightly serious with a little camp of its own. How would this be lame? It is possible to do the character without it being ridiculous.
Even, Bruce Campbell did a magnificent job in Bubba Ho-tep, a B-movie, by not making the character stereotypical or "lame." The fans of the book and the fans of the show, even fans of Elvis would be more attracted to the show if this unique character were included. Just choose someone to play him that isn't lame.
I'd suggest Bruce Campbell but anyone can make this a good character, they've managed to do well so far in the show.
We, the dedicated fans, call on Alan Ball and the creators of True Blood to include the character Bubba in the series, as he is a vital and much loved character from the Charlaine Harris novels.
