Dear former Top Of The Pops viewer. Don’t you really miss it of late? Yes, we all know the programme had slightly lost its way when the BBC yanked it off the air. But since then there has been no credible attempt by the Beeb to replace it, leaving an aching gap at the centre of our TV schedules.
Little surprise then, that there have been calls from both music and media industries – as well as from impassioned members of the public - for the programme to be brought back. But if it is to return, it must be in a format that works.
I believe I have found that format: following the success of the Christmas and Comic Relief specials, clearly there are two different programmes appealing to two different audiences, namely kids and parents. Studying the schedule I am proposing the following two slots, exact times can be worked out later on once the BBC agree to the ideas in principle.
We the undersigned would like to see TOTP brought back on BBC1 as a tea-time kids program aimed at readers of the magazine and listeners to the Radio One Top 40.
We would also like to see TOTP2 brought back on BBC2 as an evening program for adults featuring new artists alongside archive clips.
