Bring Back the New York Fire Patrol

Please support New York Assembly Bill A 09046 and New York Senate Bill S 06090 Since 1867, by statute, insurance companies have voted an annual assessment to support the New York Fire Patrol.

Since 1946, the Insurance companies have voted a median assessment of $.95 per $100 of premiums collected in New York City. In 2006 the insurance companies voted to stop funding the Fire Patrol, calling it outdated, and of no real value. Yet, an informal survey of 370+ fires in 2005-2006 in NYC shows estimated economic value of $250 million per year, as well as incalculable savings to NYC cultural, educational, religious and government buildings and properties. These bills will confirm and continue mandatory and minimum funding of the Fire Patrol by the insurance companies.

Every year, hundreds of millions of dollars in business assets, revenues and continuity are protected by the Fire Patrol. They have worked at thousands of active fire scenes each year. They work alongside the Fire Department of New York, following the firemen into the building and immediately protecting endangered businesses, assets and residences from water and smoke damage.

The New York Historical Society, the Metropolitan Museum of art, the New York Public Library. Right down to the Pharmacy on your corner and your church around the block. The New York Fire Patrol has always been there when disaster strikes our most precious locations or close to home.
