Channel Nine has "temporarily" removed AFL Footy Show star Sam Newman from his position claiming he needs a rest to recover from his recent health issues.
Sam Newman has been the stalwart of the AFL Footy Show since its inception many years ago. He has always been known for his outspoken views, his offbeat acts and for "sending up" anyone who he feels is fair game. He often pushes the boundaries, his humour is funny and he provides entertainment. Sam Newman IS the AFL Footy Show.
Recently his funny sense of humour and a skit he did on a show upset some of the "Powers That Be" at the AFL. The people he upset with his alleged sexist skit were women. These women seem to run the AFL and one has to wonder if Channel 9 as well. The female TV Presenter that the skit was targeted at, accepted his appology and one would have thought that was the end of it. But no these female "Powers That Be" wanted to persue the matter. It was not directed at them but they thought it was appropriate to take a stand for "women" that might have been offended.
Channel 9 needs to bring back Sam Newman and stop saying he is having a break as he was brought back too soon from recent illness. He was a ratings winner for Channel 9 several days after being operated on for prostate cancer and the promotion of men having a simple blood test. He probably saved lives because he spoke out. Channel 9 didnt think it was too soon then.
If the women of the AFL want to be treated with respect and as equals they need to be able to laugh at something that is hilarious and not take it so seriously. Not all women have no sense of humour like you. Sam Newman will "semd up" anyone who is fair game. He is funny and makes The Footy Show.
We the undersigned call on Channel 9 to re-instate Sam Newman.
He is the reason for the show's success.
