On 10th December 2007, the £700m 'St Pancras International' railway station opened its doors to the Thameslink Bedford-Brighton line, replacing 'Kings Cross Thameslink' station with immediate effect.
Thameslink is largely regarded as one of the most congested commuter rail-links in the United Kingdom.
As commuters, we were all therefore expecting an improvement on the Kings Cross Thameslink operation, which took one a circa 2 minute (largely unobstructed) walk to get to an underground line.
However luck (and pure unadulterated logic) was not at hand! You are all well aware of the below. The 10 minute power-walk to the tube from St Pancras International (here-in known as The St Pancras commuter Gauntlet) consists of:
- 3 sets of escalators (2 of which are clearly not adequate for the role they were intended for)
- 2 sets of ticket barriers
- A power-walk down the entire length of the Eurostar terminal main walkway (multiple stumbles over unapologetic French tourists who stop for no apparent reason, not optional).
St Pancras International was clearly wholly designed with the interests of Eurostar tourists ahead of Thameslink commuters.

We, the undersigned, call on First Capital Connect and National Rail to re-open Kings Cross Thameslink station for the Thameslink rail service, until a satisfactory route to the London Underground is provided at St Pancras international for Thameslink commuters (of a maximum of 3 1/2 minutes average duration at regular walking pace).
