"Thank you" for your support in this matter, today I received a phone call from the Transport Department to let me know that when Stage 2 of the re-development of Geelong's Bus System begins, if not before, Highton 16 will continue on from Deakin University as Waurn Ponds 14, truly improving the service and removing the need to wait up to 1 hour for the connection as well as other similar re-routing/time table alterations. This being only a small part of a much bigger picture, please continue to let us know your concerns and ideas on similar matters at geelong@ptua.org.au, attend monthly meetings of the Geelong Branch, Public Transport Users Association or contact Paul Westcott, Convenor on 0413 075 439. Highton, Waurn Ponds, Grovedale and Marshall
The Geelong bus timetable from Viclink Effective 7 September 2009 does not provide public transport along the former route 16, to all users in the above areas.
Even though this is an extensive network servicing Geelong town centre and the surrounding suburbs, it does not cover the entire area that route 16 once covered, adequately.
We the undersigned wish to draw your attention to:
the geography of the land that the route 16 bus once transported passengers over eg. hills, open land etc. that is difficult for bus users eg. citizens who are elderly or disabled, to negotiate.
the lack of bus shelters at stops in places where passengers now need to wait for connecting buses, on the former route 16, to take them to Community Centres, Education Facilities, Medical Centres, Work, etc.
excessive waiting times at above stops, for once seamless travel on our public transport service, has been replaced with a broken and stunted one which is less than ideal as well as very complicated to use.
