On December 30th, 2008, recently indicted Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich shocked the country and possibly the world when he announced that former Attorney General of Illinois Roland Burris would be replacing President-elect Barack Obama in the United States Senate.
There is something fundamentally wrong when an indicted governor, part of an ongoing investigation and out on bail, can appoint someone to the United States Senate.
Though Roland Burris would otherwise be a decent pick for the seat, his appointment carries a dark cloud over it. The very seat that got Gov. Blagojevich in trouble in the first place is to be taken by Burris -- or so they thinks.

We, the undersigned, call on US Senate Majority Member Harry Reid (D-NV), Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan (D) and Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White (D), and others, to honor their commitment to block the appointment of former Illinois Attorney General and current US Senate nominee Roland Burris from being seated in the 111th US Congress.
Roland Burris has lead a distinguished career, for which he deserves much praise. However, any appointment made by the tainted and indicted Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich (D) should not be seated. The current investigation surrounding the governor is about the very Senate seat to which Roland Burris has been nominated.
So please, Senator Reid and Durbin, Attorney General Madigan and Secretary White, and others, honor your commitments and block this appointment.
