We want the streets to be safe for all people, whether they are walking, bicycling, taking transit, or driving. The goal is to improve safety, wherever possible.
By adding a dedicated bike lane it will help provide the required "three feet to pass" separation from motorists and cyclist. This will improve safety and traffic flow.
("The driver of a vehicle overtaking a bicycle or other nonmotorized vehicle must pass the bicycle or other nonmotorized vehicle at a safe distance of not less than 3 feet between the vehicle and the bicycle or other nonmotorized vehicle").
